About L. C. Evetts - Help

nizta

Hello -
I’m working on a project on Roman Lettering - specifically on the inscription at the base of the Trajan Column.
I need help. I need to find info about the life and work of L. C. Evetts.
- if somebody knows anything - please let me know...

Greatly appreciate any kind of help -

Atzin G.

Evetts was good. I very much appreciate his treatise on Roman lettering. I even did it into Russian when I was in school. As to the info about his life and work, thank heaven for Google...

Thank you very much Thomas

And thank you Maxim -

I’m doing a booklet on Trajan face for my Type 2 class...
Leonard Evetts’ book Roman Lettering was extremely helpful

Cheers,
Atzin

Evetts’ book is interesting but it may give the mistaken impression that the Trajan letters were planned out geometrically. There isn’t any evidence of this.

You should try to find a copy of Fr Edward M. Catich’s The Origin of the Serif, which a good university library should have, and the rarer Letters redrawn from The Trajan inscription in Rome. The latter is likely to be kept in special collections, although there are six copies for sale on ABE, beginning at $138.
