Hey all,
I'm a college typography student and need some help for an assignment. Does anyone out there know what fonts are used on the Ontario plates.
The ABTP 357 is probably specific to the machine that makes the plates.
YOURS TO DISCOVER looks like Palatino.

These are indeed not "fonts" in the sense that they would be available in digital format to use on your computer. These characters are made specifically for the plate-making machines that produce them.
There are a number of typefaces available that either were modeled after or resemble various types of license plates. In this instance I would look into Tobias Frere-Jones's Garage Gothic or Christian Schwartz's Pennsylvania. Also check out the collection of license plate fonts from Lineto.
The "ONTARIO" part is a clumsily modified Artcraft.
URW++ sell a set of signage fonts that includes the DOT fonts used in the US. There is one set called SNV which could mean Standard Numbers for Vehicles? Add the artefacts from metal stamping, and you're there.

While doing an unrelated search, I stumbled upon Penintentiary Gothic on MyFonts. It might be another option for the large characters in the middle.
