This is probably a tuff one or at least a question which calls for many answers. Im not looking for easy solutions just for tips and tricks and experiences to get my type life a little easier going. People might have different ways of doing this whole designing letter stuff so just share you knowlegde please;)

There is a thread which discusses the character widths which makes interesting reading, but as with so many things in type design it is mainly subjective and depends on media and size that it is aimed for.
