Problems with font- Unicode?

Jeremy Dooley

It seems like I can never compile a font without incident. I have a recently pretty much finished with a typeface. Everything works fine in Adobe, but when I try using it in word, or previewing it in character map, I get what you see below. (just square boxes where there should be characters) I am pretty sure it has to do with the unicode encoding. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help you may provide.

I am using Fontlab 5 and windows XP.

Sorry about the repeats. I kept getting a message, so I reloaded. My apologies for the spam. I am going to try attaching an image again in this message.

You have to assign an unicode to your “non unicode” glyphs. Please use the Private Use Area (PUA) for this. (E000 - F8FF) If its done, you will find your “private” glyphs in word too.

Thanks for the tip. However, my problem has to do with every single glyph showing up like this. I did try remapping the encoding using the PUA with standard, but honestly, I dont know what I am doing or why. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

JDooley

The screenshot of your FontLab windows looks okay: correct codepoints are assigned. In what format are you exporting the font? TTF, PS OTF, Type 1 PS?

PS OTF

Try exporting as a TTF and see if this makes any difference to be behaviour in Charmap and Word.
