Does anybody know what this typeface is?

I know what it is.

It’s a hideous bastardization of Galliard, but does it actually exist as a retail type, and does Matthew Carter know about it?

Uau, the lowercase ‘d’ is simply atrocious. The same goes for the ‘p’.

That’s because the stress was reversed as the characters were flipped, not rotated. What an abomination!

Maybe the people who ran the ad (Golf equipment) could tell you who did the graphics for them. Is there a Typographer’s Blacklist?

It’s pretty obvious to me that this is a hacked up version of Galliard. Talk about cutting strokes.

Edit—Oops, I didn’t read Nick’s initial post very closely in which he already identified this as a version of Galliard.

the lowercase d and p are too funny. i’m not even that typographically conservative, but that’s just so bad!

Looks like the typographer was “off his game” and trying to make the cut :-)

I know, three stroke penalty for stress reversal :-)
