(x) new Entertainment Weekly display face - Cioroli (custom) {Justin}

mleister

I’m trying to figure out what EW’s new face is that they’re using on covers and in the feature well. Someone in another thread said it was Titling Gothic, which is close, but there are some definite differences, “g” and “Q” being the most obvious. There’s some similarity to Helvetica Neue as well, but it’s not a perfect match either. I’m wondering if they had a custom face done. Thanks for any help.

Despite doing what this post says, I’m having trouble posting an image of a recent cover, so here’s a link: http://www.ew.com/ew/covergallery/0,12924,1024216,00.html

go to photoshop and set it under 500x500 pixels at 72 dpi and Save for Web. Always works.

Looks a lot like Vectora too. Good possibility it is custom. We need a bigger scan.

The N is wrong and the rounds aren’t quite square enough. The tail of the Q appears to be straight.

Galaxie Polaris is in the same spirit.

its a custom sans redrawn from old reference from a Italian type specimin from the late 1800’s. its called Cioroli (sp?).

Thanks, everybody. I’ve been without internet access (horrors!) for the past few days. Thanks for figuring this out while I was gone.
