Typophile

node 18614

A friend is trying to identify this typeface, and I’m having a brain fade moment. So I throw it out to Typophile scrutiny. It’s annoyingly familiar, but I’m drawing a blank.

unknown

some sort of Caslon?

unknown

That’s what I thought, too, but I don’t recognise the cut.

Period old Style by Intertype, I think

unknown

I think it looks most like Adobe Caslon, because it has the link to the stem of the K, and the C has only one serif.

Or Imprint by Monotype

unknown

when was the book printed?

unknown

David I think you picked it. Imprint looks very good, right down to the numerals.

Thanks, David. Imprint it is.

Nick, the book was printed in 1956, but I suspect it might be photoreproduced from an earlier edition. The gigantic spaces at the end of sentences look very odd for 1956. Actually, they look very odd for the 20th century!

You’re welcome.
