Avenir - Need Similar Font

nickfruhling

Now we've had the whole talk about getting what you pay for and everything, but my coworker really likes the Adobe Type font Avenir and wants to use if for her personal stationery. We have the font at work, but she wants to do it the honest way, just on a tight budget.

Can anyone suggest a similar font with a not-so-similar price? Any suggestion is appreciated...

It's only $21 per style at FontShop. Of course, if I liberally interpret "not so similar", then you can also choose Gotham, at $397 for the complete set :)

How many weights do you need? Do you need italics?

Also consider Proxima Nova at $29 each style.

Best place for cheap fonts: Specials at Myfonts.

My coworker says "Thank you for saving me over a hundred dollars". But she called you "type nerds" as well.

So what did you use? We're just dying to know, you know.

My Mac came with a font called "Futura". It's somewhat similar, except for the "a".
:0)

Yeah, which one did you decide to use?

She went with Avenir from FontShop, and she's probably going to get just the Book and the Medium for now, possibly the heavy later on. She likes Proxima Nova but for the extra 8 dollars she's going to go with her first love. She also didn't get that Futura joke.

It's beginning to sound like this is actually for me and I'm using the old "friend of a friend" routine, but I'm really not.

fontshop offered proxima nova light in februar for free.

> She also didn’t get that Futura joke.

Futura is the typeface Adrian Frutiger wanted to improve on with Avenir.
