It's hard to tell without looking at your file...

Are you in Codepages view when you generate? And have you renamed the font that you are generating? (You may have a conflict of the old and new if you haven't.)

Mats, when I open the file "04b-08", it is in Names view mode, which might be the issue. Here's what I would do:

_ Switch to Codepages view mode
_ Choose the codepage you need: Mac OS Roman or MS Windows 1252 Western (ANSI)
_ Perform these commands:
_ _ Select All
_ _ Glyph / Glyph Names / Clear Unicode
_ _ Select All
_ _ Glyph / Glyph Names / Generate Unicode
_ _ Select All
_ _ Glyph / Sort Glyphs / By Encoding

Also...
In the Font Info / Encoding and Unicode window make sure that Greek is checked.
Switch the "FOND ID" to a number less than 10000.
Switch the "Microsoft Character Set" to "Western (Latin 1) CP1252 / ANSI"

See if that works.

I'll have a look. The font naming isn't what I do, but...

That symbol indicates that the outlines are TrueType.

Mats, are you going to be using the font on a Mac or Windows box?

On a Mac, but I vulad prefer if it was a tty font so it will work on Windows to. But most important is Mac =)

Hello Matsaki... I saw your font and i want to make a note on that. I assume that you wanna add some more characters at that pixel font (04b_2), but your stress is not in the right placement...

When you make pixel fonts, and your font's UPM value is 1000 then your pixel is 125x125 in the Glyph window... so you can go at the options (FL5) and give the settings to the grid:

so you can then add / draw pixels with the Rectangle tool more easily...

notice the left char of yours with the wrong position of the stress. On the right is the right position...

But now I face a new problem. The kerning (space between letters) is getting a bit messed up =( (at least in Photoshop)

Is there a way to set the kerning automatically?

Yes. There were some settings in the Preferences and Font window display which I changed, and which allowed me to generate properly-working fonts.

Try and set these options at the Character panel:

Photoshop CS / CS2

Use the font only at 8px (if it is designed at this size*) or multiples of 8 (16,24,etc) with the Anti-aliasing set to "None", and the "Kerning" feature set to "Metrics".

*Well if your font is designed to work at 8px size then the grid at 125 will work fine, if you have the UPM size at 1000.

What is the UPM size at your font's info / Metrics and dimensions ? It must be 1000... if not do it so.

Fonts UPM is set to 1000 now. Before it was 1200. It's also a checkbox with "Scale all Glyps according to UPM range"? Shall I check that?

Also the pics of settings that Chester was so nice to give me. Did not help me all the way as he have the newer Fontlab 5.x and I have 4.6. There are far more settings in the newer version.

I also Upladed the font and the .vfb file.

Here it is what it looks like with 1000 UPM size (was 1200).

UMP 1000 amd 7 px font size:

Just change the grid space to 150 and it will work ok at 1200 UPM and 8px at PS

(1200/150=8)

Also always use 100% view at PS to see the pixel fonts right.

the normal version is ok

it is at 1200 UPM BUT change the Grid step at 150x150 so as to work at 8px size at Photoshop

(1200/150=8)

the bold version is problematic. it needs redesign.

Do it from scratch again or just leave the UPM size at 1000 as it is and change the grid step at 125 so as to work at 8px at Photoshop

(1000/125=8)

you must then move the corners of the outlines at the grid corners. (snap to distance will help you)

I did it all over again. I imoprted the bitmap bold font. Put the UPM to 1200 and grid step to 150-150. Now the font looks great as far as bitmap in Fontlab. (dont have to be redesigned) But the outcome is that the font only works as 7 pixels and not 8???

Ok i guess the original font is " 04b 09" i opened it and i saw that the UPM size is 900 (its developer just wanted that size - don't ask why)... so put your grid step at 150... and the font will work ok at 6px size at PS...

900/150=6

Yes that's the font. But the other one 04b 08 is 8px, and I want to use these 2 fonts as regular and bold, with the same size? The only problem was that it did not have the Swedish characters ÅÄÖ as I started this thread with =(

Can you see if the 04b 08 have the same UPM (900)?

Ok... just download the fonts from the developer's site where these two fonts have the same UPM size (1200) and set the grid to 150. ;o)

I downloaded the font the first time from another site where maybe the font was altered, and had 900UPM size...

Looking in the yellow pages for a madhouse!!!

I downloaded the 04b_09 from the original author. Imported to Fontlab and used UP 200 and grid 150. Now it works fine as a 8px font. but the kerning still gets messed up =((

well there's something in your Photoshop Matsaki that mess up the kerning...

i used your bold ttf font from the zip you provided and it works fine to me at 7px.

Yes, I also get the 7px "version" to look ok. But I mean the "original" 8px font from the developer's site. As I want the font in 8px and not 7px. Same as the 04b_08.

Hey, don't be confused Matsaki... either 8px or 7px at Photoshop's type panel, the font is still 5 pixels height!! That doesn't change!!

Count the pixels to see it for yourself...

I suspect that I maybe have a kerning problem anyway. I closely checked normal and bold. I used the 7px font that you downloaded that os working "better" and also took a closer look at the normal font. As you can see the kerning is better, but not perfect as I can see that you get it from your last screens hot.

I also noticed that the kerning problem mostly occurs at the first and the last letter?

Matsaki did you notice my last screenshot that i attached and the settings at Photoshop's typepanel???

Did you see the setting at the A--V field that was 0 and not 100 that you use?????

That's the tracking that Photoshop uses... i thought you knew some things about Photoshop's type settings...

Read also some instructions (my second post) for proper use of pixel fonts (the size of the font that you will use in Photoshop typepanel depends in the size that the developer says the font works)

I am truly sorry! Shame on me!!! I don't know why I missed that? Maybe because I do this work at nights =(

I will play arround with the font now and get it right. Just that after the last security update for Mac I can't install the bold font???
