It looks a lot like ITC Cheltenham to me.

I don’t think this was meant to be a type ID, but more to showcase the graphic. and although it is a Cheltenham, this is Matthew Carter’s custom rendition for the New York Times.

acutally Cheltenham is great even though people hate it.. the small ’g’ inspired my Trebuchet ’g’... (trying not to look like Matthew Carter’s ’g’ ironically)
