Book which compares the fonts of different factories

Rolandillo

Hi fellas
I'm looking for a book (or site) which shows the differences in fonts of different vendors. For example: an Adobe Caslon is maybe more true to the original than an ITC Caslon but the ITC has maybe a better legibility in smaller grades due to an increased x-height and a Berthold Caslon blablabla....

Does something like this exist or do i have to invent it? ;-)

Cheers and thanx for help!

Roland

Is there an English version Alessandro?

I think this would be fascinating - a comparative study, in rigorously formalist terms, of the various revivals of, say, Jenson, Griffo, Garamond, Granjon, Jannon, van den Keere, van Dijk, Kis, Caslon, Fleischman, and Fournier.

No, I don't think so, but you can try Level J. & Newman B. 2000, “The Precision Type: Font reference guide, version 5.0”, Hartley & Marks, Vancouver.

Thanx Alessandro - i'm going to check this book out and look if it fits my needs.

muchas grazias to all - this forum is a cool place to be!!
