isn't it really Profil (sometimes seen as Profile) from the mid-forties.

Yes it is, but when I looked on Linotype's site but only found this horror (okay so somebody needs European-style cartoon faces). I remember it best as the old BBC logo.

It says in the fine print that it's based on Profil and the credits are the same. 1946 to be exact.
