Ironically, Erik Spiekermann provided me with some quotes relating to this subject just earlier this evening. I hope he won't mind my sharing them here.

'You cannot not communicate' - Paul Watzlawik

'You are what you are seen to be' - Erik Spiekermann

'Appearances are not false' (Nur der Schein trügt nicht) - Paul Klee

'Form is the outside of content, and content is the inside of form' - Jean-Luc Godard

Of course, one implication of all these quotes is that identity design won't do anything for you if you suck.

That’s hilarious ! Thank you, I’ll try not to suck :)

“Logos don’t have to be legible.” Atributed to Paul Rand, but who knows. I also think that I read Paul Rand saying that logos have to be simple enough for a child to be able to draw them witha finger on a beach's sand... but also who knows.

"Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler." (¿Is this right?)
Albert Einstein

"Perceptions are truth because people believes them" Epictetus

"Be yourself."

How about Erik Spiekermann's other famous quote:
In Germany we have a saying: "There are many ways to bake a parrot."

"What's in a name"

Thanks guys, these are all great, I found a couple more:

"Design is so simple, that's why it's so complicated" -Paul Rand

"Good design goes to heaven. Bad design goes everywhere."

"Success comes in cans. Failure comes in can'ts."

"I hate quotations. Tell me what you know" -Ralph Waldo Emerson

“I always have a quotation for everything— it saves original thinking.”- Dorothy Sayers

Bruce Chizen, CEO, Adobe:

"One of my biggest challenges in taking over from two great founders has been trying to figure out how to change the company without destroying the culture that John and Chuck built. It's tough -- because the company needs to mature, needs to be much more business focused. Yet, at the end of the day, innovation is about the employees. We're an I.P. [intellectual property] company -- it's what's in people's heads that makes a difference. And the fact that we keep making the Fortune "Best Places to Work" list is refreshing. The fact that we improve on the list is even more refreshing, despite the company having become much more performance oriented."

Put this up on my cubicle wall yesterday:

"You can not soar like an eagle when you are surrounded by turkeys."

Here are a couple I've read in a great book "Designing Brand Identity" by Alina Wheeler...

"Products are created in the factory. Brands are created in the mind." - Walter Landon, founder, Landor Associates

"A logo is the point of entry to the brand." and "Extraordinary work is done for extraordinary clients." - Milton Glaser, designer

"Design is intelligence made visible." - Lou Danzinger, designer and educator

"Don't explain, identify." - Paul Rand, designer (This is especially useful for the client who believes that the logo must explain what the company provides)

'I am a whiz kid,
I love my swiss grid.
( Now give me a biscuit :)'
