Squared Gothic

I've seen this typeface everywhere. I believe the SF Giants even use it on their jerseys. Any ideas?

I would love to know myself. This reminds me of a typeface I saw in an old typesetting catalog, that hadn't been digitized, but the name escapes me. It's definitely not in the univers, helvetica, raleigh gothic, or alternate gothic families.

It's like a rounded Agency and there are similarities to the Bee series, if not for that straight-legged 'R'. There is also Baucher Gothic.

This Cst Berlin East-Medium Tf is also close:

Thanks for the suggestions! I did some research of my own and found Trump Gothic & Akzidenz-Grotesk Condensed to be pretty close...

Closer but not quite that yet isn't it?

May be as close as we'll get, sim. This may not be available digitally.

Yeah, it looks like there will only be approximations. I thought that there might be an "official" version out there that all the others imitated.

It looks like Cst Berlin and Akzidenz-Grotesk Condensed are the closest.

Thanks for the replies. If anybody knows the original font, feel free to post. FYI, the sample was taken from a Chip Kidd cover design in the early 90's...so it's possible that it was pre-digital.

Chip's been known to draw his own type.
