I’m looking for decent desktop pics…any ideas?

if you register to veer, they’ve got some great desktops.

There used to be typophile desktops, perhaps they will be resurrected with everything else that has disappeared.

I’m using this one for now. I took it in my garden.

probably original size fills the desktop. 2464 x 1632 px.

I have blurred pictures of my office on my two-monitor desktop:

It’s actually not my current set up making it a window into the past. The scene continues on my Windows box. My desktop is also usually more cluttered than this (both actual and virtual).

I’ve been alternating between these two images for the past year:

Two of the best photos I’ve ever taken.

I use this one of Hannah Sandling on my home laptop Alien..

I work with dual monitors and really like this site. They have a beautiful collection of desktops for a variety of screen sizes/combinations.

Zara, thanks for sharing the mandolux site, there’s some great stuff there formatted for a wide variety of resolutions and monitor set-ups. I grabbed the “wheatg” left image for my 1400x1050 notebook; wonderful rich greens. Beautiful stuff. Now if only I could figure out how to set 2 different images on my 2 monitors (run off my notebook).

unknown

they’re using my font but I like my roses pics better than those…

I use a neutral gray desktop. I do a lot of Photoshop work and don’t need any distractions.

I am addicted to Codetek’s Virtual Desktop, and have twelve desktops in a 3x4 arrangement on my laptop monitor, all showing different crops of Vermeer’s girl with a pearl earring, like this:

and a constant thirteenth desktop on the external monitor, with a screen shot from the opening credits of Bullitt:

I have a folder that I put all the interesting type stuff I find here and on the ‘internets’ and have my desktop pic rotate with a fade about once a minute, constant type-stimuli, burning in my brain!!! AGGGG!

CT VDT is good. I’ve got the demo, thinking about gettin the full version.

unknown

I’m with Mr. Weaver - neutral gray all the way. The less icons the better…

There are cool desktop pictures in the Stuff/Wallpapers section of the 2Rebels foundry website : http://www.2rebels.com

I’ve been using these for the past 2 years. Denis Dulude makes cool stuff.

I find myself going here to refresh my random daily cycle of images. At times, I go for an all mechanical theme, other times, a blured abstract thing. The last time, insect specimens. Depends on the time of year I guess – or something.

I too like to change my images often. For a long time though (and still every once in a while) I had different versions of the tiny Typophile logo background. The fading image rotation feature in OSX is so cool that I took and made subtle changes in the background color so that ever minute or so the hue would change, but the logo stayed there.

There are 43 variations there, I would be willing to upload them somewhere, if anyone was interested. It wasn’t my original design, so I guess that is up to the Typophile guys or whoever made that background first. Let me know though if I am not upsetting anyone.

Here are what the colors look like though…

At work I put up pictures of my kids. At home I have one from the ferry from Bowen Island to Horseshoe Bay, but it’s nowhere near as impressive as John’s sky.

Here’s a list of resources from MacRabbit. Deskshade is a desktop picture management app.

John, That is about 50km from my home on the Sunshine Coast.

OSX solid blue on both monitors. One set to Adobe’s web profile, the other lovingly calibrated to CMYK. Quite a difference.

I’ve never really gotten into desktop images on either Macs or PCs. Basically keep them on neutral blue/gray.

BUT, I’ve used many screensavers.
Current screensaver: The Matrix which simulates the cascading green code used in the movie trilogy.

Yes, I’m old, but I’m saving Zion from Agent Smith!

Nice - that’s my new SS.

I like to completely fill my desktop with whatever files are lying around, then take a screen shot of it, and then use that for my desktop : )

I like the pics you can find at Mandolux. The design of the site insists upon patience, but they have some amazing stuff.

I have a number (205) from a Guava crate I shot in on the island of Kauai in the great state of Hawaii. I have a few others I shot & like too…

If you want to grab em:

I use “Aqua Blue” — the default my Apple came with.
But there’s not much of it visible behind the mess of folders…

unknown

I’ve been using this one for a while now.

Nowadays, whenever I’m travelling, I switch to a picture of my daughter Miranda.

Besides that, I’ve recently used the cover from Frank Miller’s “300” as a desktop pic.

My desktop is such a disaster of clutter, that I have to use just-plain-grey as a desktop or I will never “find” anything.

I can hear the sound of anal retentives snickering around the World :-)

…just blue. and the desktop is clean.

Chris, I get a little freaked out when more than a few items are on my desktop. I once, for a week, tried to only use my desktop as well as not emptying my trash with every insert. Let’s just say I didn’t last a day. :^}

“A beautiful mind…”

Chaos is the mother of invention. I wish I could find the mother who put my mind in chaos :-)
