Sexiest letter forms poll

typoyeur

What do you consider to be the sexiest letter form or character? Next, what do you consider to be the sexiest part of the letter (for one form or characters in general)? Finally, what do you consider to be the sexiest type face?

I'm a communication design student at Emily Carr in Vancouver and I'm polling this informartion for a project I'm doing on the sensuality and potential sexual connontations of type. Any replies will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

ligatures are obvious
X or x is often used in simplified cartoons for kisses and the whole XXX thing, then there's "xoxo" which is pretty universal.

really I think V is purdy sexah.

but flip-side I think D, B, S, 6, anything that looks like it has a beer belly would be unsexy. perhaps because I'm female and prefer certain shapes...whereas a male might think its a pregnant lady and go "woo"

what ever you say though, exclamation marks - they just aren't too subtle...about as sexy as a pick-up line.

Interesting topic!

As letters, the lc "q" and "y" seem sexy to me.

> I think V is purdy sexah

You should read Alfred Kallir.

> a male might think its a pregnant lady and go "woo"

Hey, we're not all Beavis and Butthead.
"Hey lady, how did THAT happen?" :-/

One of the most unsexy glyphs is the Quadraat "B".

"z" ... there's something wicked about "z" and that'ssexy.

Sexiest part of a letter? Subtle curves, where the leg connects on the "R". Typeface? That's hard. Caslon, maybe.

If you haven't seen it already, you might want to check out this, David.

As for me though...I guess I think lc 'k' is pretty hot. And lc 'a' and 'e' with ogonek.

Sexiest part...where the bowl joins the stem on lc 'n' (m, h, u). There's just something about crotches ;-)

And no idea what the sexiest face would be. Not Mrs. Eaves ligatures though - those are just plain obscene...

O is for orifice.

The bowl of the lower case a, especially in grotesques like Helvetica, is a breasty shape.

Modula Ribbed.

David, statistical analysis of pornography is worth considering. You may be able to search online using keywords such as "slut" and "comic sans", although this would not capture information about bitmapped typography.

On a personal note, growing up in the heyday of Playboy, I've always been partial to a little Baskerville.

> Modula Ribbed

Especially the 3D version in Abbot Miller's "Dimensional Typography". In fact, David, you should definitely get your sweaty hands on that little book. :-) It has a few other erotic entries too.

Q
Mostly because of the double meaning of some words when we refer to the lower part, in French!

"La queue du Q"

Perhaps someone can found appropriate non literral translation?

Jean-Francois !

But what about this then? :-)

I think David needs to win something: he just made the 10,000th post to the General Discussion forum.

Spontaneous free membership? Yeah, come on!!

Thanks John. That's a yuk. Did you design it?

sean:

those "gi" & "gy" are some sexy ligatures.

The "gy" is one of most genial ligs ever.

hhp

1 - sexiest letter

2 - sexiest part of the letter

3 - sexiest typeface

David Hamuelsample///

I could look at that "gy" ligature all day -- just beautiful. I'm envious.

David, that Q is not just sexy, it's positively reproductive.

Sean:

Beautiful ligature choices, I'm sorry to say that I do not know what face(s) they are from. Can anybody help me out?

Thanks again to everybody that has replied, and to those to come.

David, they are from Mrs. Eaves italic.

Er, minus the period after Mrs, of course.

I am having a crazy love affair with the lowercase "p" from democratica.

mmm...lowercase p.

well Hrant - of what I found on the net about Kallir...yes V is now super sexy to me, or maybe Kallir

Any florentine cap R -- because it is standing up straight (showing pride), with it's chest out (showing no fear), and showing just enough curve in the tail (showing a bit of humanity).

I think it's the negative space that makes a letter or number sexy or vulnerable.
