Retired professor of typography and calligraphy at the Fachhochschule Wiesbaden. Schneider has designed several typefaces, including Vialog for Linotype Library.

Schneider is regarded as one of Germany's greatest living calligraphers, along with Hermann Zapf and Gottfried Pott.
