(x) Vertigo - hand drawn by Saul Bass {David Hamuel, BJ Harvey}

amabanda

This comes from the Vertigo movie poster. I would appreciate knowing if there is a font and if so where I can get it. Thanks.<!--attachment: VertigoText-16547.unk*attachment_icon.gif*image/tiff*73.5*Vertigo+type*VertigoText%2etif -->

I don't think I uploaded a readable attachment. Maybe this will work.jpeg version of Vertigo text

[after the Emmy.... i'm going to have more time.....], but look for the production designer.... art director..... and usu., - the artwork is/was "custom" (e.g. anatomy of a murder).....

David Hamuel

legendary Saul Bass....

dunno if a font was made from this.

One Matt Terich created this font (available for free from saulbass.net) based on Saul Bass' hand printing. It's not very similar to the Vertigo titles but might also be of interest for you...

A Mac version is also available on the same site.

good one adriano...go April 12! :-)

it appears saulbass.com was nabbed
by a domain thief...

Arrr, them scurvy domain pirates!

Hey matey, Sept. 19 was National Talk Like a Pirate Day. Yarr!

http://www.talklikeapirate.com/

Tango is not a pirate font, however.

Oh... a little late then, aren't I?

you guys..... work fast....

ah ha. Saul Bass artwork. like anatomy of a murder. and many others....

[Hitchock & Bass worked a lot and WELL. Bass directed a short sequence in Vertigo.
and Paramonunt didn't censor his artwork. rare thing!!!)

so. about the typeface - the design was part of the concept (the poster, the figures, the idea of the movie...etc etc.)

David Hamuel

There are 3 Saul Bass inspired fonts here.
The first two offer a similar "look".

You could also take a look at Volcano King from Font Diner, in the In-Flight Meal Font Set.

www.fontdiner.com

Font Bureau's Comrade also has a similar feel.

Blimey, the sun's already out and I'm still not in bed!

till now? and you didn't find the typeface?

:-)

David Hamuel

hey.....that is my ID... :-)

:-)

Yves, are you the one...... :-)

David Hamuel

since the sample....... so eassssyyyyy... i gave the hint : anatomy of a murder.

:-)

David Hamuel

Looks like I'm not the only one trying to squeeze some credit out of you. :-)

I needed that hint. I'd never heard of the guy before
yesterday.

Saul Bass, who's he?

:-) KOC.

I luv film and Hitchcock movies are so rich.

Don't mind sharing the ID with another Ram, er, hawk...
I'm on a one-per-month quota anyway so I'm done for September.

the icon is from Google

oh, God. too heavy for me. bye.

David Hamuel

what happened there, I don't know?

This kinda stuff should be handlettered anyway IMHO.
There are a number of freeware/shareware fonts that
have that same angular handdrawn quality.

Well technically it wasn't really your ID.
Identifications for custom/commissioned designs
only get credited when someone can pinpoint by
whom the design is. This means a number of IDs
which we are almost 100% sure of they're custom
don't get regarded as positive IDs. This hurts our
stats, BUT I think it's fairer.

BJ was the first poster who mentionned Saul Bass,
so he gets credited. You get co-credited solely
because I'm in a good mood today. Consider this
"abuse of power". So sue me.

> Looks like I'm not the only one trying to squeeze
some credit out of you.

Let the bribing commence! (This could become
a lucrative activity...) :-)
