thanks for the wiki info paul (didn't knew that there's a wiki here). mrs eaves suggestion are great, but i'm still not satisfied with copperplate and engravers gothic... more suggestions on copperplate pairings?

Lars, do you really need to use a sans for copy? Generally, in my opinion they are less readable. Goudy Old Style might be a good serif pairing for Copperplate, as Goudy also did it, and Goudy Old Style is fairly wide. Of course this would get an 'old fashioned' look, which may be good or bad, depending on the purpose of your piece.

For Copperplate on the other hand, I see no connection with a Sans Serif. I think you should reconsider it and maybe try some serif typeface instead, but hey that's just my personal point of view ;-)

well, the "problem" is that it's an existing logo for a restaurant. first they (the client) wanted to reach people around 40 and up, but now the also want to have younger people around 30 at the restaurant/bar and i was asked to do some posters/flyers for them to address those "younger" people, too. so i'm looking for something to work with copperplate in the logo and that can be used for flyer/posters to address those 30somethings ...

i use google. try something like this in the search field "mrs eaves site:typophile.com". this is still kinda spotty as some things have been ported over and others don't seem to be, but it's better than nothing.

yeah, a copperplate logo (dark red and 30%black), claim also copperplate... now something that matches the copperplate, but
doesn't look that "elegant" more way "cool" (clients, tsk tsk tsk).
script ain't a that good idea, as i need it for the copy text in
the list of beverages and for flyer/posters...

Well Sophisto is only available from Psy/Ops Type Foundry at the moment. They have on-line services, 24 hours though ;-)

Sophisto is really killer -- oodles of features at a great price. I don't have it yet, but the PDF is in my "must have" stack.

It might make a nice contrast to pair the modern Sophisto with the antique Mrs. Eaves.
