Font editor of choice??

Bjørn Hansen0 votes

Hey TypeNerds!

I'm about to do a study (BA project) on the identities of font editor software! And i need your help!

I'm would like to hear which software for fontdesign is your number one choice? Fontlab, Glyphs, other? (and maybe why?)
Does the company behind the software, and its appearence on the market matter to you?

Greetings from Denmark, and thank you so much for you time!

There are several other font editors out there. Some are not advanced enough for professional type designers, which seems to be the main audience here.

Here are a few others you might want to include:
DTL Font Tools - http://www.fontmaster.nl
FontCreator - http://www.high-logic.com/font-editor/fontcreator.html
FontForge - http://fontforge.github.io
Fontographer - http://www.fontlab.com/font-editor/fontographer/
Type - http://www.cr8software.net

I think most font designers use more than one font editor, along with other font related utilities. Also be aware not all editors are available on all platforms. Glyphs is only available for Mac while FontCreator runs on Windows.

Note: I'm the main developer of FontCreator, so I can't tell you which font editor I prefer ;-)

Let's not forget RoboFont: http://www.robofont.com/

And lately it seems there is an increasing offer of browser-based online font editors.

Thank you so much for your insightful comment!
Exiting to hear from someone "in the business"!!

I was always fond of Letraset Font Studio. If you are still running system 7, 8, 9 it is THE font editor to choose.
