'y's - maybe pull them above the baseline like
you did with your 'j's. They might not look so
big then.

I was also thinking of changing the LC p to make it more resemble a reversed LC q...

I don't mind that the y has a descender, but the spacing between the bowl and the tail just doesn't work. Maybe try pulling the bowl up a ways.

(btw is that a proper use of the term 'bowl'?)
