Chicago Theatre Marquee

Elias Stein

Trying to find the best match I can for the Chicago Theatre marquee type. I know a few that are close, but I'm not a type expert and was looking to see what others suggestions might be. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you realize this is not type, but custom lettering, so I'll spare you that lecture. The closest font might be Museo Sans Rounded. Shave the ‘G’ beard, widen the ‘A’, and narrow the ‘O’.

You could also work something up from 20th Century Font (Bold) from Typodermic.

And then you might like this "Chicago" font:

To recreate this sign I would consider the extensive Core Sans series
Core Sans A 75 Extra Bold pretty well has the letters

Crossbar on _G_ is a little long.
Core Sans G Neon

http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/s-core/core-sans-g/
Has the effect but wrong G and weight is a little light
Edit this data to make a pretty good match.

I'd probably try to start with Proxima Nova (soft rounded version here) or Gotham (rounded version), manually outlining to artificially embolden and round it. Some techniques could even blunt corners like on this signage.
Ready-to-go option but probably with an overall look less close than Proxima/Gotham: Polaris, Alleyn
