What's with the different Meliors?

I just looked at the different Melior fonts over at myfonts.com. What's the difference between the "Melior Com" and "Melior Pro" and "Melior"? At Linotype there seems to be only one, yet all claim to be from Linotype?

Myfonts seems to make a difference between Melior in truetype, Melior Pro which is OpenType Postcript and Melior Com which is OpenType TrueType. It’s strange as Pro or Com would normally refer to language support and coverage, not to the file format.

Thank you, dinobib.

Interestingly, after some more poking around I noticed that Bitstream’s Elliptical looks suspiciously close to Linotype’s Melior?

Bitstream got their start by making their own versions of the Linotype library.

So much to learn, ta George! This sounds much like a similar discussion regarding Palatino a few weeks back, or this thread related to Futura.

‘making’ is said rather nicely. They started right off from the original digitizations.

My 1991 Bitstream Catalog has a listng for Zapf Elliptical 711 and then in smaller type say's Bitstream's version of Melior (with a register symbol keyed to Linotype AG)
