Typophile

Typophile logo

K.C. Thompson

I already know that the Typophile logo is set in La Portenia, designed by one of my favorite foundries, Sudtipos:
http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/sudtipos/la-portenia/

My questions are:
1) Who customized it (t, i, and l)?
2) What led to the tight crop?
3) Isn't it time to let go of the "temp" violator and to carry the branding over to the Twitter page?

Moderators (or others in the know), thanks for your consideration....

Unfortunately not a juicy story here- I customized it. The tight crop is a byproduct of wanting to fill the space, and simply typing in the font was not distinctive enough.

And yes, removing the temp marker is long overdue.

Thanks, for the response, Jared. You had me at Sudtipos....

And thanks for the web site--it's been a nice diversion and very educational.

Thanks for the discussion, finally I got my answers on the 'said' topic.

Jared, I find the logo great and hope there is no intention to change it. You've done a good job! How long ago it was designed?
Because of black and white colour, I think the red should stay somehow (twitter instead of temp?). It is more lively this way and adds a nice touch to the logo.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is "temp"? Of course, I should have asked myself a long time ago this question!...
And Kevin, thanks for opening this topic. I thought the logo was custom made. I didn't know there is a whole font behind it, and a beautiful one, by the way!

I agree about the red, keeping a touch somewhere would be nice....

"Temp," short for "temporary." The current iteration of Typophile (including the branding) was, as I recall, a sort of stop-gap replacement of an older, broken system, and was not intended to stick around this long. Is that correct?

As I recall, that's correct, that it's an old skin pressed into use after the then-current broke into million pieces.

With regard to the issue of content, I find our redesign playful because of the way the optical suggestions visually and conceptually activates the substructure of critical thinking.

Or maybe a red dot over the "i" if there's an alternate "l".
