Hi folks, been trying to find this font, without luck. I've looked at the goudys, and trajans and several other roman fonts. Came close with PF Monumenta, but the serifs are different. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Similar to Meridien by Adrian Frutiger.
These serifs are very distinctive, but not common. Your choice of Monumenta was about the only other I noticed with these serifs, and letterforms. This makes me wonder if some serif 'surgery' was done to make them look sharper. Are there any other words you have seen using this font?

I thought about doing "surgery" myself... but there are too many serifs, and I'm NEVER happy with the results.
I haven't seen this font used elsewhere... but there are other words on the movie poster/cover if that helps.

I found a whole lot of names and one link to Dafont: Augustus Regular
Perfect, DPape! Augustus Regular is an exact match. Thank you so much for the find.
The origin is Augustea Open by Alessandro Butti and Aldo Novarese, 1951.
I'm not certain about the legitimacy of Augustus Regular.
For a commercial product it might be prudent to purchase Augustea and remove the vectors that make it an open version.
UPDATE: I just checked the vector outlines. Augustus is very sloppy compared to Augustea. The Linotype version of Augustea has about 388 glyphs, many special characters and multilingual support. In this case you get what you pay for.

BTW If I wanted to do something striking in the spiky Roman genre I would look beyond the Augustea design and try Akira Kobayashi's update of Meridian, sold as Frutiger Serif
http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/linotype/frutiger-serif/ 656 glyphs in the regular weight and extensive multi-language support.

I have the Image Club "Aurea" and had noted that it was based on Augustea. Good find Dick.
It was also in the Expresiv Ornate collection as "Naushen", and I have it in the Serif Font ID Guide as "Nova Augustea", which also has a lower case. The Jaspert book "Encyclopaedia of Type Faces" shows Augustea as all caps, Augustea Open, also all caps, and Nova Augustea with a lower case.

(My surprise was Dafont...)
Thanks Mike for the heads up on Nova Augustea, with a lower case. Unfortunately Augustus seems not to have been based on Nova Augustea, since there is no lower case.
Mike and Dick, you listed quite a few names of digital fonts. Did you see any of them with a lower case?
Don
Don,
Naushen, from the Expresiv Ornate collection has lower case. This image for Nova Augustea from my Serif Font ID Guide was made using it. By the way, I would have found this using the Guide if I had seen that the M was pointed. Instead, I assumed it had normal serifs, so the Augustea fonts never showed up in the search results.

Thanks Mike. Definitely worth a look.
UPDATE
I downloaded a _Naushen_ with the internal data _Copyright 1994 NovelFonts! Corporation_. Don't know if this is the same as the one you cited.
It looks better made than Augustus. Plus it has a lower case.
Don
That is the one. Novel Fonts made the collection that was sold as Expresiv Ornate by Tiger Direct back in the mid-90's.

Some more names with lower cases:
--Octavian (unnamed foundry). Is sample.
--Brendel Informatik/LizardMedieval
--FontShop/Albert Boton/TibereTFLight
Dick, Check that FontShop Tibere reference — not the same as Augustea, although vaguely similar. (Doesn't TF just mean "Tabular Format" (for numerals)?)
- Mike Yanega
Mike: TF has "regular numbers" whereas the non-TF version is OSF. (I specialize in vaguelies...)

Good find Dick. The filled version of Augustea Open by Aldo Novarese and Alessandro Butti looks like a match.
