Microsoft uses Monotype's version of Garamond. But after downloading Monotype's version, I came to the following discovery. Microsoft's version looks rather ragged. Especially the horizontal lines of the numbers 2 and 4...

I had a similar problem with Palatino here on my Mac, and asked a similar question here. Maybe that helps a little? Often times, types are revised over time and maybe you just ended up with an older and a revised copy...
Thanks. It seems that MS ships an older version. I hope they'll update or adjust it.
