Is there something I'm missing here or he's just wrong about his exemplar?
Sorry about the wedge shaped serif thing I guess that doesn't apply here. Did he mix up old style with humanistic in his exemplar?
Note that it's under Sans and that's pretty much how they're called.

So are you saying for humanistic sans serif they had a more vertical stress and so on which were entirely different to how the serifs were done ?
I guess the standards are lower, especially in the context of grots.
