OTF Programing for Realistic Handwritting

shaugaard

I have read a lot of interesting posts here about the ability to replace individual glyphs in a pseudo-random fashion to create a more realistic handwritten font using OpenType, but very few examples.

I would love to purchase a handful of these, but I'm surprised at the seeming lack of availability. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!
Scott

Bickham Script Pro
Liza Pro
Savanna Script
Caflisch Script Pro

All available on MyFonts, I think.

Thomas - Those are more script faces with contextual alternates, although I like Liza a lot. I need something more human.

Nick - Great work! The Purchase Order is in for Rollerscript.

Still looking for more everyone.

Scott

We picked-up Rollerscript and Suomi Hand and showed the client, but he rejected them and sent us this sample. I don't like it at all, but it's his money. Can anyone direct me to something along these lines?

Hi Scott,
You may find lots of handwriting fonts on Dafont, but none of them have the Opent Type magic.
As Nick and Cristobal suggested: Olicana, Rollercsript and Suomi Hand are the closer you will get to real handwriting. If those are not enough, then you need a custom-made font for your client.

I recently did a custom handwriting font for a huge corporate client, with 5 variations of each letter, pseudo-random lowercase, pseudo-random uppercase, automatic small-caps, all 105 Latin languages including Vietnamese, etc, etc.
But this kind of custom jobs are expensive, around 30.000 USD. I don't know if your client can afford it, or if they want to spend that much.

In summary, the options are:
- Search dafont for handwriting fonts, but all the letters will be the repeated (not natural effect)
- Use one of the best already-available fonts (Olicana, Rollercsript or Suomi Hand)
- Hire someone to make a custom font for your client (Best solution, but expensive)

"Geli" uses over 130 different ligatures and many other opentype features...

Shame your client didn't like Rollerscript ;^<
Verveine by Dalton Maag is actually pretty close to that sample.

I love Rollerscript! Again, nice work Nick.
Our graphics department just put up a job this morning using Rollerscript.

PabloImpallari - We were looking to spend a little less than 30 thousand dollars on a single font.

Nick Shinn - Very close, but unfortunately there are only single glyphs in the numerics.

What the client wants is the appearance that an envelope was hand addressed. I was hoping to not have to reinvent the wheel.
