hi typophiles…!
i’ve recently been in portugal for one night… would like to know what typeface is used by lisbon’s underground:
(this image was captured from the company’s web-site.)
thanks for your help,
gustavo.
I know the exacly name of this font: Metrolis-Sinaletica
I just can't find it online.
You can confirm it on http://www.metrolisboa.pt/Portals/0/pdfs/mapasEstacoes/linhaVerde/mm_aid...
Try to copy a piece of text and paste it on Microsoft Word, and, even if you don't see the original font, you will see the name on the font box.
metrolisboa
Metrolis-Sinaletica is just Signage Icons.
You find icons for Trains, Metro, Taxis, Parking, pass cards, etc. and for the Line Symbols.
There are actualy more than four symbols (in the original 1993 Metro expansion plan, they planned six lines, including Orange and Purple)

But at the moment there are just four different lines:
— Linha Azul (Blue Line) or Linha da Gaivota (Sea Gull line)
— Linha Amarela (Yellow Line) or Linha do Girassol (SunFlower Line)
— Linha Verde (Green Line) or Linha da Caravela (Caravelle line)
— Linha Vermelha (Red Line) or Linha do Oriente (Orient Line)

Let me tell you something: I´m looking for this font for almost 8 years...
Is a beautifully designed font, it's distinctive, simple, it reads well, and it´s a strong brand element of Metropolitano de Lisboa.
But some other companies got it as well, like a chain of Pizza restaurants, a brand of Cheese an a Condominium Management company.
The image that i've posted was found in the Internet, and was part of a document (case Study) in the Wolff Ollins website. Maybe was also part of the Graphic Guidelines of the Metropolitano de Lisboa brand (I desperately want that thing!!!!)
The information that I have about the 1993 expansion plan was passed to me by a former Metropolitano de Lisboa employee, and they are a little bit vague.
It’s not FF Dax, but it could be based on it.
hmmm… thought it was barmeno, but the e is quite different
Hi!
This is a custom typeface by TheFoundry Studio,
produced for Metropolitano de Portugal…
I thought this is based in other typeface
called Brunel…

Hello again, sorry I was totally wrong in fact the real name is Metrolis and was design by Foundry — Freda Stack and David Quay. Metrolis have few weigths because this work was commission by Wolff Olins (Portgual-Lisbon) to a exclusive use so you will find only the regular, italic, bold and the respective signs. To clearify better the ideia Bliss was design by Jeremy Tankard and he devolopment a special version (PT-Bliss) to the Portuguese Telecom company. Funny every day I take the Lisbon Underground and this typeface is very familiar to me and probably you almost see me making my type correction in side of the train. ;) One more time sorry about the mistake. I just arrived at home and I only now check the information.
