Is this logo from a typeface or a bespoke monogram?

Ginjam

Used as the logo for 'Art and Architecture' a now extinct organisation in the UK.

This is from their manifesto. Cover and Inside cover. Designed by Pentagram and first published in 1989.
A beautiful booklet, each page containing a large letter ‘A’ from different and obscure typefaces.
The society put the subject of collaboration on building sites between artists and architects on the political and economic agenda.

Looks like a bespoke monogram to me. For what it's worth, if I have to reproduce it, I'd start from any "Trajan-like" of my choice, remove crossbar and add a custom one based on /~. Then, I'd contruct the corresponding counterless background "sans".

according to the site, it is a font.

Thanks defiantone. I wrote that passage on the site originally but I've had to question this character as it doesn't look like the others which all look quite historical.

Thanks Ryuk. That is very helpful. Sounds like a logical method for recreation too.
Much appreciated.
