Font in Brockmann's "A history of vis. comm."

josh5a

Hello,

Does anyone know what this typeface is? Or if it exists as a typeface at all?

It's from Muller-Brockmann's A History of Viual Communication book (page 167 for those who have it).

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Your image, shows a German advertisement from from about 1900. The heading is in Lapidar, an original typeface by Genzsch & Heyse dating from before 1895.

AFAIK Lapidar has not been digitized under this name, which is in owned as the trade name for other designs.

Thanks so much for your answer Don.
Do you know if it has been digitised under another name?
Thanks in advance

You're welcome, josh5a.
Digitized under another name? That is indeed the 64 dollar question. But I doubt it. This font is not splashy or particularly elegant. Rather it is a workhorse design -- admittedly with with some interesting features -- in a market flooded with sans variations.
Sufficient raw material for a font maker is available in the 1902 G & H catalog at pages 348 and 349. It is online in the form of a huge djvu or tiff file at Archive.org.
Neverless, if anyone HAS seen a digital version a link would be good.
