The Candy Wrapper Archive

Russell McGorman

Oh, boy: who wouldn’t want a candy bar named Chicken Dinner? Or Ack·Ack…

2008 was clearly a transition year for Butterfinger.

Ack-Ack - With the ack-ack gun in the logo. Interesting little stamp on the bottom. It appears to say "Keep buying War (something) Beers and Stamps."

The list of ingredients sort of gets heavy somewhere in the 70s to 80s monodiochlorohydrate big words and then comes nutritional facts ...lol!

True, before then the list of ingredients is often in the name.

Thanks for posting this, Russell.

An excellent name for a candy bar, IMHO…but Ack·Ack is still my favorite…

And I'm pretty sure you could buy War Bonds and War Stamps, but I never heard of War Beers…although, had I been around at the time, I would have gladly bought them…

Pretty sure the missing word is 'Savings', as in War Savings Bonds.

Yes, it is, and "beers" is actually "bonds". I saw a clearer imprint on another wartime candy wrapper. But truth be told, I like my miss-read version better.

Yeah, "War Series Beers" sounds way nicer and would very likely have sold as well as the bonds.
