Typophile

Using Google's relatively new mapping site and turning on the satellite imagery funtion, people are starting to do 'Google Sightseeing'. Pretty cool.

Why's it relevant to Typophile? There's one guy who has a page dedicated to 'Large Type'

Nice work, Karsten!

That's pretty cool. I couldn't find the Hollywood sign that they posted, so I decided to look for something closer to home:

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO THE INDUSTRIAL CITY

Cool stuff.

The Hollywood sign is vertical so it's probably hard to see. But I did find the Hollywood Bowl... No letters though, sorry. Hey, what about crop circles? Those count as alien lettering, right? :-)

Man, that is so intense.

Google maps is second only to Wikipedia as being one of those sites where you go to look something up and then realize you've just spend an hour randomly looking at things.

That's a great blog, Chris!

The Rainbow Bridge in Utah (on the front page for now) is another cool view.

I could spend a long time in Grand Canyon, Arizona, too.

I've spent the last hour trying to find Roden Crater.
No luck yet.

Hey if you like Google's satellite images, check out Nasa's World Wind here. Unfortunately only Windows right now, but they're working on a Mac version...

Trying to find a few that I know of:

I used to always pass this driving, it seems much larger in person than it does from a sattelite, but the "Acura" on the hill to the right of the indicator:

Shadow of "The Big A" at Anaheim Stadium (and some cool motocross action!):

The sun is always shining.
On Georgian Bay, it's a beautiful Fall evening, and the leaves are turning.

unknown

Hrant, you want crop circles?

unknown

Funny!

And you know what's impressive? In a few short years Google has managed to place "2005 Google" markers over the entire surface of the earth...
